On the bright side, one Texas city (metro) is in the top 10 of the most educated cities in America and that would be the 10th ranked Georgetown/Austin/Round Rock area.
Hover over your city of choice, below, to see where it ranks.
The next set of news might not shock you as we also have 4 of the top 10 least educated cities in America. I say it might not shock you as many of us Texans are well aware that our state's education system ranks poorly (#34) overall, according to WorldPopulationReview.com.
Maybe Texas would rank higher if we placed the same priority on education as we do football. Just a thought.
11 key metrics were used in determining the rankings among the 150 largest metropolitan areas in the United States. Those metrics include educational attainment and quality of education and attainment gap. All of which factor in gender, race, and age, among other things.
Here are the Top 10 Least Educated Cities in America.
10. Corpus Christi, Texas
9. Ocala, Florida
8. Beaumont/Port Arthur, Texas
7. Stockton, California
6. Hickory/Lenoir/Morganton, North Carolina
5. Modesto, California
4. Bakersfield, California
3. McAllen/Edinburg/Mission, Texas
2. Brownsville/Harlingen, Texas
1. Visalia, California
So, it appears Texas and California are tied with 4 of the 10 least educated cities in America.
While that study covers all education, Texas does rank fairly well when it comes to the best states to be a (college) student. As a matter of fact, Texas is the 7th ranked state for best states to be a student. So, we've got that going for us.
Maybe Texas would rank higher if we placed the same priority on education as we do football. Just a thought.
