Well, Apparently Texas is One of the Most Sinful States in the United States. Not Shocked at All.
The financial planning website Wallethub recently revealed their list of the most (and least) sinful states and, not surprisingly, Texas is ranked fairly high on the list of sinners.
So, how exactly did Wallethub determine the degrees of sin among our states?
Some states are more well-behaved than others. In order to determine the states that most give in to their desires, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 47 key indicators of immoral or illicit behavior. Our data set ranges from violent crimes per capita to excessive drinking to the share of the population with gambling disorders. [WalletHub]
Basically, they looked at how each state scored in the following categories:
- Anger & Hatred
- Jealousy
- Excesses & Vices
- Greed
- Lust
- Vanity
- Laziness
How does Texas rank among the other 49 states?
Well, overall, Texas ranks as the 3rd most sinful state, just behind Nevada and California. After looking at the breakdown of those categories, it seems Lust, Jealousy, and Vanity are what catapulted us into the upper echelon of sinners.
As a matter of fact, Texas ranks 1st in Lust, according to Wallethub. Aside from the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, the only thing I can think of that would take us to #1 is our lust over BBQ.
So, there you have it, even with all the high and mighty people here in our awesome state, we're still just a bunch of dadgum sinners.

While sinning may be the work of the Devil, Devil River State Natural Area is 100% not of his doing - that is, unless you sin while you're there.
