Former Nirvana Bassist Krist Novoselic Hints at New Dave Grohl Collaboration

The CBGB Festival went on over the weekend in New York to celebrate the legacy of the legendary club that helped launch so many rock careers. One of the keynote speakers during the event was Nirvana co-founder Krist Novoselic, who somewhat let the cat out of the bag that he is working on something with fellow Nirvana alumnus Dave Grohl.

Novoselic talked to Rolling Stone on a variety of subjects, including Nirvana’s legacy, politics and CBGB itself. When asked if he was getting back into the studio with the Foo Fighters frontman, Novoselic vaguely responded: ”I think there’s something cooking. Ask Dave.” Grohl has not confirmed working with Novoselic on a new project as of yet.

The last time Novoselic and Grohl got together was when the bassist recorded bass and accordion for the Foo Fighters song ‘I Should Have Known,’ which appears on the band’s seventh studio album, ‘Wasting Light.’ That record also reunited the two with producer Butch Vig, who was at the helm for Nirvana’s landmark release, ‘Nevermind.’

Novoselic has spent a great deal of time in the world of politics post-Nirvana. He is currently the chairman of FairVote, a non-profit group that strives to raise awareness on elections reform and increase turnout at the polls. Novoselic admits that he has grown wary of the political party system, which is why he has become an Independent.

“I was disillusioned. I got tired of volunteering for a Super PAC,” he said. “It wasn’t a grassroots organization. It could be if the other Democrats wanted it to be, but I wasn’t getting a very good value for my time and energy. So I’m an Independent now.” Novoselic also noted that he would support candidates no matter which party they came from.
