If you didn't snag the Trivium / Type O Negative "I Don't Wanna Be Me" split on Record Store Day, you probably haven't heard this one until now. In celebration of the 15th anniversary of Type O's Life Is Killing Me album, Trivium have shared their faithful cover of the album's single, which can be heard below.

Matt Heafy's crisp, enunciated style of singing is a perfect match for Peter Steele's mid-range bellows on this track. Sure, it's hard to match the depth of Steele's voice, but that's only because most people aren't over six-and-a-half feet tall and 250 pounds. The guitar tones are warm like the original and the Heafy really gets into character with the "hoo-ahh" grunts.

Speaking with 90.3 WMSC's "The Metal Teddy Bear" program, Trivium's Corey Beaulieu said, "We did the Type O Negative cover just for fun, to have a bonus track or just have something useful for whatever, and we just had that kind of hanging out, and then Roadrunner [Records] decided to… It was 15 years since that song came out. So they were just, like, 'Hey, we should do this split thing for the 15-year anniversary of the song.' And we had the song, so they sent it to the Type O guys, and they gave the blessing; they liked the cover."

Trivium have taken a break from touring to allow Heafy to focus on fatherhood. He and his wife, Ashley, welcomed twins last year. It's possible that the group will release a new record in 2020.
