The Abilene community is mourning the loss of Jimmy Chaikong, a beloved Texas musician, former MMA fighter, and devoted father who tragically died in a boating accident at Eagle Mountain Lake this past weekend.

A Sudden Loss at Eagle Mountain Lake In Texas

I didn’t know Jimmy Chaikong closely, but the news of his passing this past weekend still hits like a gut punch. Jimmy, a 50-year-old musician and former MMA fighter, died in a boating accident at Eagle Mountain Lake in Texas. He was out on the water with his two young children when tragedy struck.

Around 5 p.m. on Saturday, a passing boater rescued the kids, who were found floating and screaming for help. Authorities began searching immediately, and by Sunday afternoon, the Tarrant Regional Water District recovered a body in the southeast portion of the lake, later confirmed to be Jimmy Chaikong.

 A Heartbreaking Glimpse on Facebook

I was watching his recent Facebook live videos on Sunday, the ones where he’s taking his kids out on his sailboat, and breaking in real time as comments flooded in, saying he'd gone missing. To see those joyous videos, now shadowed by such sorrow, is completely heartbreaking.

Heartbreak for His Children

What I can’t stop thinking about, and honestly can’t even begin to imagine, is what those kids went through out there on the lake. To be pulled from the water, terrified, crying out for help while their dad was missing… that’s trauma no child should ever have to experience.

And as tough as that moment was, what breaks me even more is knowing what they’ll have to go through moving forward, growing up without the man who loved them more than anything.

All of us at Townsquare Media Abilene offer our condolences to the family and friends of Jimmy Chaikong.
