Metallica have posted a video of bassist Rob Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett covering alt-rock band Garbage's 1996 single "Stupid Girl" while frontman James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich take a quick breather.

The performance comes from a September 2 show in Madison, Wisconsin, Garbage's hometown. Trujillo sang all the vocals as he played and both he and Hammett tapped their feet and grooved back and forth, seemingly enjoying the raw three-minute long jam.

The clip was part of the  "Rob & Kirk's Doodle" series, in which the duo plays a hit in the hometown of the artist who wrote it. Previous covers have included Prince's "When Doves Cry" in Minneapolis, Minnesota, A-Ha's "Take on Me" in Oslo, Norway and Europe's "The Final Countdown" in Stockholm, Sweden.

Metallica will play Lincoln, Nebraska tonight (September 6) and the band will continue to wind their way through North America until the last scheduled show of the tour, March 23 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. With any luck, Rob & Kirk will doodle something by Still Remains that night, or maybe Pop Evil.
