Megadeth Perform ‘Outshined’ in Tokyo as Touching Tribute to Chris Cornell
As expected, the musical tributes to Chris Cornell have begun. Megadeth got in one of the first performances taking the stage in Tokyo and revealing to the shocked crowd that Cornell had died before performing the Soundgarden favorite, "Outshined."
"Chris Cornell from Soundgarden died today. When I found out I was so sad," stated an emotional Dave Mustaine before the performance. After settling down a heckler in the crowd, he continued, "We have lost one of the most beautiful voices in rock history and I don't even know what to say other than that we're going to dedicate this next song to you, our friends in Tokyo, because we're here with you and we want to celebrate Chris' life."
Telling the audience that he could never sing like Chris, he encouraged the crowd to join in and sing with him if they knew the words. "I love you Chris, I'll see you one day in heaven," stated Mustaine before starting the performance of "Outshined."
Cornell passed away Wednesday night (May 17) in Detroit not long after Soundgarden's performance at the Fox Theatre. Hotel security eventually found him dead and it was later ruled by the medical examiner that the cause of death was suicide by hanging.
