June 8th in Texas was one for the ages as severe storms rolled across Abilene and the Big Country, leaving a path of destruction caused by strong straight-line winds. One local TV station was hit head-on, but a local university is stepping up to help.

Local ABC affiliate, KTXS, was literally blown off the air during the storms, which also saw big rigs rolled over, roofs destroyed, and many locals facing a long cleanup process as rain continues to pour over Texas.

As mentioned, KTXS suffered extensive damage to their building, which destroyed a big portion of their building. Now, inspectors have surveyed the damage and have deemed the building "dangerous and unsafe", putting the TV station that has been a trusted source of news in our community in a tight situation.

KTXS posted the update on their YouTube channel.

That is crazy. I can't imagine our radio station being practically destroyed, and the great lengths it would take to continue to serve our community.

ACU Steps Up To Help KTXS

Enter Abilene Christian University. Within hours, the university’s journalism department swung into action, offering KTXS access to their state-of-the-art TV studio, complete with game-day live production gear and interview setups

ACU department chair Kenneth Pybus said it was a no-brainer.

When Will called, I was very happy to offer our space…we’re all about serving the community, making sure people know what’s going on.” Summer scheduling meant ACU’s studio had availability, which made the timing perfect, he told KTXS.

What's Next For KTXS?

Sinclair’s David Ostomo says the next big decision is whether to patch things up or start fresh with a brand-new studio. No set timeline yet, but one thing's for sure, between the city stepping in, ACU opening their doors, and the KTXS crew pushing through, this station is not going down without a fight.

We’re pulling for you, KTXS!
