I'm not a Trump fan but I'm not going to make fun of him for his most recent verbal gaffes. My grandmother and father both suffered from age-related dementia and Alzheimer's. I know I wouldn't like it if someone made fun of my loved one because of their deteriorated mental state so I'm not going to do it now. But, I do want to say that if Donald Trump were my father I would be very concerned...concerned enough that I would insist he be seen by a specialist. A real specialist, not one of the "wacky" doctors that Trump enlists to go on TV and call him "the healthiest man I've ever examined" or "the most physically fit President in history" and other such hyperbolic nonsense.

Earlier this week Mr. Trump repeatedly substituted one common word for another very common word:

This is troubling beyond just the spectacle of the most powerful man in the world stumbling with basic language skills. I've never thought of Trump as a great speaker and it's clear he has some real gaps in his knowledge of ...well, most things. But I'm sure he knows the words "orange" and "origin" and I think the confusing of the two may well be a sign of the onset of dementia. Or, it could be that he is over-tired or extremely stressed by his job. But, even if that is the case, it would still warrant a thorough medical and mental health evaluation. I mean, we don't let my dad even drive his tractor anymore. And THIS guy could Tweet out the nuclear codes.

Also, there's this:

Three times. That's how many times, ON THE RECORD, that Donald Trump has claimed his father was born in Germany. Fred Trump was born in the Bronx in New York City. Many Trump critics are citing this as just another example of Trump's predilection for lying. He's a notorious liar that's certain. But I think, in this case, he may NOT be lying, per se, and that's even more concerning. Donald Trump's GRAND-father was born in Germany. I think Mr. Trump may be confusing his father with his grandfather, another indication that his cognitive functions are impaired. I mean that in a very real, non-insulting way. If he were my dad, I would really, really want him checked out...by a REAL doctor, not a SPIN doctor.

Although, Trump also claimed in his autobiography "The Art of the Deal". that his father was born in Sweden. So the liar option is obviously still a viable explanation.
