DevilDriver took a break from the traditional album cycle, issuing the Outlaws 'Til the End metal-leaning country covers record back in 2018, but that doesn't mean that Dez Fafara stopped working on original music. In fact, earlier this year, he revealed that he had finished recording for a proposed double album.

During a chat with KCAL 96.7's RadioActive Mike Z, Fafara offered a little more insight on what's to come from the release. Speaking about the decision to issue a double album, the singer stated, “[It was] concept, strategy and necessity. The brand needed to move forward, we needed to move our sound forward and we wanted to put out a double album in order to do that. It’s going to be three years before you get a record, so it’s next March you get a record and then the following March you get one. So you get one a year and I think it just needed to be done.”

When asked if it might be more conceptual, the vocalist stated, “It’s gonna be exploratory and I think people are going to love it. If you’ve followed my career, you’re going to get a lot from everything I’ve done, not just DevilDriver. I’ll just say that.”

Fafara also said the success of the Outlaws 'Til the End covers set has him thinking about doing a follow-up, but added that a second volume was possibly two to three years down the road.

At present, DevilDriver are out on the road with the revived Static-X and new dates were recently announced for the fall. Fafara, who also serves in a management capacity with Static-X, spoke more about his history with them in the chat. Take a listen to the full interview below.
