The scumbaggery has reached a new low in the race for Congressional District 19. Colonel Michael Bob Starr is being attacked for participating in LGBT fun runs at Dyess Air Force Base.

This low-blow seems to have been delivered by, or at least egged on by, one or more of the other candidates, the most prominent voice being that of Jason Corely, who likened what Starr did to "promoting [the homosexual] lifestyle."

Starr defended what he did and said he doesn't regret it.

"I am disgusted by an attempt to drag the men and women of Dyess Air Force Base through the mud for someone else’s political advantage,” Starr said [quote via Lubbock Online].

Let's start with this: If you didn't serve and you don't know what it's like to lead and live on a military base, your opinion means nothing.

A military man or woman is there for ALL of the soldiers, and that includes his or her free time as well.

Corely and candidates DeRenda Warren and Donald May seem to be the three trying to make the most out of this situation. The best I can tell, none of these critics have any military service, and, frankly, have zero class or respect for our military either.

I was not fortunate enough to serve in the military, but I can tell you one thing I know for sure: When you're in the military, everyone is your brother and sister. This cohesiveness and teamwork is what makes the military work. These candidates chose to call the Colonel out, but don't appreciate what it takes to serve.

Good luck to you Colonel Starr. We need more men like you and less politicians like them.
