Texas is king when it comes to football. So the fact that another semi-pro team is coming to Abilene has me fired up! Say hello to the Abilene Gladiators, who will bring local talent, local pride, and a whole lotta grit to the Key City.

These guys have been practicing in the brutal Texas summer heat, and let me tell you, the vibe is electric. The team’s Facebook page has been blowing up with updates, and that first “today is the start of a new beginning” post made me want to start tailgating right now.

Abilene Football: It’s in Our Blood

This isn’t Abilene’s first rodeo with semi-pro football, as we’ve had a few gladiators of our own in the past. Back in the day, the Abilene Ruff Riders hit the turf in 2007, giving fans their first taste of hard-hitting indoor action.

Then came the Abilene Bombers, storming the Taylor County Expo Center from 2009 to 2013 with high-scoring games and rowdy crowds that could shake the rafters. We’ve even seen outdoor semi-pro squads come and go, each leaving their own mark on the city’s sports scene.

Interview With Abilene Gladiators

Team owner Derek Agraz, quarterback Chase Wishart, and defensive coordinator Morris Simms joined me to discuss the upcoming season, how fans can get involved with the team, and more. Check it out in the player below.

Future Meets The Past

The Abilene Gladiators are stepping onto the field with the lessons of the past and the energy of something brand new. This is the revival of a tradition that’s been simmering for years, just waiting for the right crew to fire it up again.

Why This Is Big for Abilene

This is more than just a football schedule; it’s hanging out with your friends watching some Texas football, it’s meeting the players at community events, it’s a new reason to throw on your team colors and yell yourself hoarse. The Abilene Gladiators are bringing a fresh chapter of football to town, and I’m ready for it! Go Gladiators!
