Best Metal Guitarist Of All Time? [VIDEO]

Who is the greatest metal guitarist of all time?  Honestly, for me personally, there is only one name that could top the list.  The late, great, Dimebag Darrell.  Total Guitar and Musicradar.com are asking everyone to vote and currently Dime is losing to Dream Theater’s John Petrucci.  The list of nominees and how you can vote after the jump.

To me, Dime was an innovator of guitar sounds.  Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, ever duplicated his sound – and nobody ever will!

With the way he made the guitar squeal and the melodic undertones he used, he could go from the heaviest of heavy, to the softest, most beautiful sounds in a second.

Now, don’t get me wrong.  There are many metal guitarist that are extremely good and have crafted their skill to make them guitar gods in their own right, but if you are talking full on innovator and pure God gifted skill, you have to think Dimebag Darrell.

Now, as much as I like Petrucci and how bad ass he is, I just think Dime has done more for metal itself than any other metal guitarist.  Petrucci is a bad ass,  and as polished of a technical guitarist as you can get.  The guy has spent most of his life in the studio and it shows. So, for him to be at the top of the voting right now, is not really surprising.  I just think that as far as best ever, Dime has that honor hands down!

There are many other great metal guitarists, including Zakk Wylde, Randy Rhoads, and more but in my opinion, Dime has all of their numbers.

Keep in mind this is all just my opinion. We would like to know yours as well.

Who is your favorite metal guitarist of all time? Is there any on this list that shouldn’t be or any that are not on here that should be?

Let us know by leaving your comments below and don’t forget to follow the link I’m about to give you to vote as well.

Here is the list of nominees followed by a link to where you can vote.

By the way, can’t believe James Hetfield is on this list. Good guitarist, but Kirk is better and not on this list. There are others that I think should be on this list but are not and visa versa.   I digress.

So here is the list:

Alexi Laiho (Children Of Bodom)
Daron Malakian (System Of A Down)
Dave Murray (Iron Maiden)
Dimebag Darrell (Pantera)
Fredrik Thordendal (Meshuggah)
Glenn Tipton (Judas Priest)
Gus G (Firewind, Ozzy Osbourne)
James Hetfield (Metallica)
John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Kerry King (Slayer)
Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge, Creed)
Marty Friedman (Megadeth)
Michael Amott (Arch Enemy)
Mick Thomson (Slipknot)
Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth)
Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne)
Tom Morello (Audioslave, Rage Against The Machine)
Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath, Heaven And Hell)
Yngwie Malmsteen
Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne)

I have included a video of “Domination” from Pantera.  Dime shreds in this one!!!
