The inner workings of legendary thrash masters Slayer have been tumultuous within the past two years. Along with drummer Dave Lombardo being dismissed from Slayer's 2013 Australian tour dates, guitarist Jeff Hanneman has been recovering from a severe case of necrotising fasciitis due to a spider bite, with Exodus shredder Gary Holt having filled in for Hanneman during his absence
Slayer have been playing as part of Australia's traveling Soundwave Festival with a different drummer behind the kit. Jon Dette, who has performed with Slayer in the past, agreed to fill in after a financial dispute involving Dave Lombardo led to his current ouster from the band. Guitarist Kerry King told Soundwave TV that it was frontman Tom Araya who first pointed out that trouble was brewing.
Although Slayer have a way to go in recording their next album and there is no set timetable for when it may come out, guitarist Kerry King has stated that he is "very comfortable saying" that the record will see a 2013 release date.
