Shay’s ‘Frio River’ Float [Gallery]
In Texas a way to cool off is to float the river. There are a number to choose from; the Guadalupe, Comal, Frio, San Marcus to name a few. It’s a fairly inexpensive, relaxing and fun getaway to take in on a weekend. The problem is you have to have water in the river to enjoy the float, something that’s been a problem here in Texas the last couple of years. Well, we’ve received a bit of rain and although the rivers aren’t fantastic they are quite enjoyable right now.

This weekend marks the 14th annual Barbarian Festival in Cross Plains. This is a fun time for the whole family with lots of antique cars, tractor show, kids booths, crafts and more. Why is it called the Barbarian Festival? Simple, the creator of Conan the Barbarian was from Cross Plains and this is a time to celebrate author Robert E. Howard.

The Fort Griffin Fandangle is Coming; Don’t Miss a Great Family Event [VIDEO]
This is the 74th presentation of Texas’ oldest outdoor musical. The Fort Griffin Fandangle is always the last 2 weekends in June and if you’ve never been you are missing a great time. Although I’ve lived in Abilene all my life and had heard about the Fandangle, I had never attended until 2 years ago. I was blown away it is a great performance with lots of local talent.
