Well here we are again, almost July and that means celebrations of all kinds to honor our nations independence. Some of us celebrate with family and friends, just small gatherings and others go all out with huge parties that include the entire neighborhood. Then, of course, there are the public events with family friendly environments and fireworks to top it all off. I did some research and found the following events here in the the Big Country for everyone to attend.
World Blood Donor Day is this Thursday and as we all know blood is the gift of life for many. You never know when it might be you or a family member in need of a blood transfusion, but I guarantee you would want your type to be in supply. Thursday is a perfect day to go and donate and save a life.
In Texas a way to cool off is to float the river. There are a number to choose from; the Guadalupe, Comal, Frio, San Marcus to name a few. It’s a fairly inexpensive, relaxing and fun getaway to take in on a weekend. The problem is you have to have water in the river to enjoy the float, something that’s been a problem here in Texas the last couple of years. Well, we’ve received a bit of rain and although the rivers aren’t fantastic they are quite enjoyable right now.
What could you do with a million dollars? I know I would buy this nice big house out near Potosi that I recently looked at and pay off bills for my family. This particular hole-in-one contest is splitting a $2 million dollar prize between you and the Ben Richey Boys Ranch. So it’s a win-win for you and a great local organization that helps turn boys into respectable, productive young men.
The rodeo has a long history and it began with Texas’ 100th birthday. To celebrate Texas’ Centennial birthday 9 businessmen came up with the rodeo idea, that was in 1936. It was successful then and continues today with it’s 75th anniversary.
Earlier this week I asked the question what do you do while on the toilet? Then I took your responses and created a poll, and it looks like 50% of you said you read while sitting there. Reading could include, magazines, newspapers or books.
What do you do in the bathroom when you must be there for a certain length of time? You know, while you’re sitting on the “porcelain throne”. Do you like to read, play on your phone or iTouch, listen to music, write on the walls? We all do something while we are sitting there so fess up and tell us what you do while sitting on the potty.
National Flip-Flop day is coming June 15th, are you ready to hang out with your toes out? If you’re planning on celebrating the day you might want to make sure your feet are presentable first. While researching this holiday I found something very interesting, it’s not just a fun holiday but it actually was created to send kids with life-threatening illnesses, and their families to camp for relaxation and fun.
I come from a family that loves to read, and I personally read all the time. It might be magazines, newspapers or books, it doesn’t matter really, I just love to read. My mom was a teacher for over 40 years and has always bought books and read to us from as far back as I can remember. Some kids aren’t that fortunate however, they don’t even have one book in their house. That’s where H-E-B Grocery comes in to help with their Read 3 program.
