Well here we are again, almost July and that means celebrations of all kinds to honor our nations independence. Some of us celebrate with family and friends, just small gatherings and others go all out with huge parties that include the entire neighborhood. Then, of course, there are the public events with family friendly environments and fireworks to top it all off. I did some research and found the following events here in the the Big Country for everyone to attend.

  • Boomfest Fireworks & Music at the Rock-Breckenridge

    This event is hosted by the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, July 3rd at the North Park (Corley's) at CR277 & CR278. Gates will open at 6pm and cost is $10 per car load. There will be live entertainment through out the evening and concessions on site. The evening will finish with fireworks over the lake at 9:45. All boat ramp rules will apply and boats must be at least 700 ft. from the shoot site. This is a family friendly event which means NO alcohol will be allowed. Bring your lawn chairs and get ready to have a great time with friends and family! By the way 1/2 of the proceeds from the event will be given to the Hubbard Creek Volunteer Fire Department.   • Family on the 4th Celebration-Comanche

    This is the 22nd annual celebration and fireworks in Comanche and will be held on Wednesday July 4th and the Comanche H.S. Indian Stadium. Events that day start early at 7am with a Firecracker 5k. Then at 6:30pm there will be hotdogs, watermelon and drinks provided by the Comanche Noon Lion's Club along with a welcome at 7pm and Free musical celebration. At 9pm there will be a All American Ceremony honoring Veterans and the Armed Forces then at 9:30pm the largest fireworks show in Central Texas will take place.   • 4th of July Celebration-Buffalo Gap Historic Village

    This will be a great event for the entire family. The younger members can learn why we celebrate July 4th and you can re-learn the meaning of the day. The Buffalo Gap Historic Village will not just be celebrating the day with fun activities but will also have a reading of the Declaration of Independence. The day will kick off with a parade at 9:30 am then events at the village will begin at 10 am. There will be crafts, music, food, games face painting, community fun and history re-enactors. There will also be hot dogs and BBQ sandwiches served by local Scout Troops or you can bring your own picnic. The parade is open to all and registration will begin at 9am at Shades of Hope; prizes for best entries will also be awarded.   • Wes Tex Connect Fireworks Spectacular-Abilene

    This is the 2nd annual Wes Tex Connect event for the 4th of July. It will be at the Festival Gardens at Nelson Park near the zoo. In fact the zoo will also be part of the VIP celebration. You will be able to see the fireworks FREE from outside the VIP area however, there are lots of activities you will miss out on too. The zoo will open at 6pm and remain open until 9pm, a BBQ dinner will be provided by Sharon's BBQ and then at 10pm the fireworks display set to music will take place. The only way you will be able to attend these events is to purchase the VIP package. The package is $100 and includes 4 tickets into the zoo, 4 meals, 4 festival garden tickets and a parking pass. Each additional VIP pass will be $25. Kids 6-10 are $10; kids 5 & under are Free (meal not included). Any overflow parking will be at the Taylor Co. Expo Center.
