Ronnie Dunn Will Perform at REHAB Summer Dinner Show in Abilene

The West Texas Rehabilitation Center (WTRC) announced that country music legend Ronnie Dunn (formerly of Brooks and Dunn), will be the featured entertainer at the 34th annual REHAB Summer Dinner Show. The West Texas Rehabilitation Center is a private, non-profit physical rehabilitation facility. The center cares for more than 28,000 children and adults every year on an outpatient basis. The REHAB center operates primarily on funds they’ve raised and donations.

American Red Cross Asks for Donations to Help with the Possum Kingdom Lake Fires [VIDEO]

Friday August 10th, firefighters battling the wildfires near Possum Kingdom Lake, called on the American Red Cross office in Abilene to assist by provide bottled water and Gatorade around the clock. Within hours, the local Red Cross volunteers had trucks loaded and were dispatched to Possum Kingdom. By Monday August 13th, supplies were beginning to diminish and the American Red Cross in Abilene was being asked to assist in the Tarrant and Johnson Counties area after last nights brutal storms. The Red Cross is asking the media for assistance in getting the word out. Here’s how you can help.

Abilene Alzheimer’s Association to Benefit from Art Walk [VIDEO]

Art-Walk enters into uncharted territory on September 13th, when the Center for Contemporary Arts (a non-profit themselves) raises money and awareness for another non-profit, the Abilene Alzheimer’s Association. ‘Education Chronicle’ Names McMurry University as One of the Best Colleges to Work For [VIDEO]

The results are in, ‘The Chronicle of Higher Education‘ just released their fifth annual report on ‘The Academic Workplace,’ based on a survey of more than 46,000 employees at 294 colleges and universities in America. 103 of the 294 institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” status. McMurry University was awarded honors in two separate categories.

Cross Plains Classic 5k Run to Benefit the Local Cancer Fund is September 15th

The first annual Cross Plains Classic 5k is set for September 15th. This event is a run or walk  and there will also be a 1-mile walk option. All proceeds benefit the local Cross Plains Community Cancer Fund. If you per-register before September 1st, you’ll receive a T-shirt commemorating the event. There’s also a “Sleep-in” option. The West Texas Fair and Rodeo is Coming to Abilene

 

The 2012 West Texas Fair and Rodeo begins Thursday, September 6th, with the traditional Sneak-a-Peak night and will run through Saturday, September 15th. This year fair goers can purchase a ‘Seasons Pass’ that’s good for the duration of the Fair and Rodeo. Some crowd favorites are back this year, like the Tractor Pull competition, the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack show and of course all the entertainers on the Outdoor stage.
