The West Texas Rehabilitation Center (WTRC) announced that country music legend Ronnie Dunn (formerly of Brooks and Dunn), will be the featured entertainer at the 34th annual REHAB Summer Dinner Show. The West Texas Rehabilitation Center is a private, non-profit physical rehabilitation facility. The center cares for more than 28,000 children and adults every year on an outpatient basis. The REHAB center operates primarily on funds they’ve raised and donations.
Friday August 10th, firefighters battling the wildfires near Possum Kingdom Lake, called on the American Red Cross office in Abilene to assist by provide bottled water and Gatorade around the clock. Within hours, the local Red Cross volunteers had trucks loaded and were dispatched to Possum Kingdom. By Monday August 13th, supplies were beginning to diminish and the American Red Cross in Abilene was being asked to assist in the Tarrant and Johnson Counties area after last nights brutal storms. The results are in, ‘The Chronicle of Higher Education‘ just released their fifth annual report on ‘The Academic Workplace,’ based on a survey of more than 46,000 employees at 294 colleges and universities in America. 103 of the 294 institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” status. McMurry University was awarded honors in two separate categories.
The first annual Cross Plains Classic 5k is set for September 15th. This event is a run or walk and there will also be a 1-mile walk option. Walk With Pride is an annual program that helps provide a new pair of back-to-school shoes for Big Country students. ‘Walk With Pride’ is a cooperative effort of the Salvation Army and the Abilene Association of Realtors.
