The West Texas Rehabilitation Center (WTRC) announced that country music legend Ronnie Dunn (formerly of Brooks and Dunn), will be the featured entertainer at the 34th annual REHAB Summer Dinner Show. The West Texas Rehabilitation Center is a private, non-profit physical rehabilitation facility. The center cares for more than 28,000 children and adults every year on an outpatient basis. The REHAB center operates primarily on funds they’ve raised and donations.
Friday August 10th, firefighters battling the wildfires near Possum Kingdom Lake, called on the American Red Cross office in Abilene to assist by provide bottled water and Gatorade around the clock. Within hours, the local Red Cross volunteers had trucks loaded and were dispatched to Possum Kingdom. By Monday August 13th, supplies were beginning to diminish and the American Red Cross in Abilene was being asked to assist in the Tarrant and Johnson Counties area after last nights brutal storms. The Big Country Wheat Conference will be held August 23rd at the Taylor County fair grounds, 1982 Lytle Way in Abilene. The Farm Bill will affect most all West Texans, as most farmers and ranchers try to figure out the challenges the new ‘Farm Bill’ will bring.
