The Black Keys originally planned to have some sort of narrative arc underpinning their video for ‘Little Black Submarines,’ the fourth single off their ‘El Camino’ album, but they ultimately decided to go with a live clip. “We all just sort of kind of mutually agreed that it should probably just be the performance and not any of the other extra stuff,” singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach told Rolling Stone of the Danny Clinch-directed video, which was filmed in front of a small group of fans at a dive bar in their adopted hometown of Nashville called Springwater Supper Club. “Luckily we had live footage so we turned it into a live video,” Auerbach added. The clip uses vintage-looking footage and features the expanded four-piece live version of the Keys, instead of the stripped-down guitar-and-drums duo formation.
