Thanksgiving is creeping up fast, and while everyone’s already plotting their holiday shopping game plan, it’s worth pointing out which Texas businesses are actually hitting pause. We know who’s serving up turkey, but here are the stores choosing to close their doors on Thanksgiving Day.

I absolutely love this trend. More and more major Texas retailers are choosing to close on Thanksgiving Day so employees can actually enjoy the holiday instead of prepping for Black Friday chaos. In a world where everything is “go-go-go,” the idea of telling your boss, “Yeah, I’ll be with my family, not running a cash register,” feels downright heroic...Am I right?

Texas Stores Closing on Thanksgiving Day

Texas is big on family, food, and football. That’s our holy trinity. So when big chains announce they’ll be closed on Thanksgiving, that’s something to celebrate. It means real downtime for real people.

It means someone gets to eat that second round of dressing without having to clock in ten minutes later. It means Uncle Larry gets to finish his story about the deer that “was THIS big” without losing his audience to Black Friday doorbusters.

What to Know Before You Shop

If you’re the “last-minute turkey baster / extra chair / one more can of cranberry sauce” type… plan ahead. Most of these stores will still roll out all the Black Friday deals, just not on Thanksgiving Day. They’ll open up bright and early Friday, fueled by caffeine and the spirit of capitalism.

13 Perfectly Nostalgic Songs About Thanksgiving

For all the great Christmas songs out there, there really aren't all that many about Thanksgiving.

That's just plain not fair. Turkey Day might get lost in Christmas' shadow a bit, but it's still one of the best days of the year: From the food to the family, it's a holiday that deserves its moment in the spotlight.

That's why Taste of Country is compiling this list of perfectly nostalgic songs for your Thanksgiving playlist. It's easy enough to find country music with a theme of gratitude, but we took it a step further.

Each and every song on this list is either about Thanksgiving itself or a food closely associated with the holiday, with one exception. One submission on this list is about family dynamics -- something that admittedly isn't explicitly about the November holiday, but does come up at quite a few Thanksgiving tables each year.
