Emergency Vet Visit: What to Do If Your Dog Eats Medication
One moment was all it took for my boxer puppy in Texas to get into serious trouble after ingesting an object all pet owners should be aware of.
As every pet owner knows, having a puppy is an adventure that comes with lots of fun and joy in your life, but there is a bit of chaos involved as well. Recently, my 6-month-old boxer, Tucker decided to test fate with a tube of medicine.
Scary Situation
Tucker had a recent visit to our vet for a different issue where he received Animax to relieve the symptoms. That tube of medicine disappeared suddenly and we spent two days looking for it.

Tucker suddenly began having bowel issues and once we saw debris from the missing tube of medicine coming out of him, the problem was clear - he had chewed up and ingested it. Needless to say, it was time to go to the vet.

We took Tucker to Big Country Veterinarian where they confirmed that he indeed had ingested the entire tube of medicine. We found out that the actual medicine was not the issue as it was not toxic. However, the chewed-up metal pieces from the tube were an issue.
Fortunately, the metal pieces were small enough to be able to dissolve and pass and Tucker will make a full recovery. Whew! Talk about a scary situation!
Prevent This From Happening To Your Pet
As a longtime pet owner, I know the dangers of leaving things like medication out, even if they appear out of reach. But it is a reminder that no matter how careful you may be, those little furballs can get into things unimaginable and cause serious issues.
If you have a puppy or any other type of pet, it’s always a good idea to take extra precautions to keep them safe. Because when it comes to our furry friends, a little prevention can make all the difference.
