Texas Mother Bravely Shares Story Of DWI Fatality That Claimed Her Daughter’s Life
A Texas mother has bravely opened up about a tragic head-on accident caused by a drunk driver who claimed the life of her precious daughter.
Aspen Blessing
Baird Texas native Aspen Blessing was a normal teenager who loved to hang out with friends, was heavily involved in her church, and had just recently graduated from high school. Sadly, all of her hopes and dreams were cut short after being hit head-on by a drunk driver.
Tragedy
On March 10th, 2024, the Blessings family's lives were changed forever when 28-year-old Brenden Lucero decided to get behind the wheel of a car after consuming alcohol at a local establishment.
Lucero would then travel east towards Baird but, made a fatal mistake that would change a family's life forever.

Around 3:53 am, Aspen left her house to meet friends in Abilene. At 4:09 am, Aspen was hit head-on by Lucero who was traveling east in the westbound lanes of I-20. She was pronounced deceased at 4:15 am just five days before she would celebrate her 19th birthday.
Lucero was eventually convicted of intoxication manslaughter and is serving a 15-year sentence in prison.
In Loving Memory
From the moment their daughter was taken from them, the family knew that they had to do everything they could to honor Aspen's legacy. With the help and support of Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper, Sargeant Marc Couch, the family regularly speaks to schools to help raise awareness while Aspen's mother, Jennifer regularly blogs on the dedicated website that honors her memory.

In our first segment, Jennifer talks about the call that changed their lives forever.
In this segment, Jennifer discusses their efforts to honor Aspen's legacy through Your One Choice, a website dedicated to sharing their story.
I want to thank Jennifer Blessing for coming in to share her story. I also want to thank DPS Trooper, Sargeant Marc Couch, for his help in making this interview possible.
