I think we can all agree that Abilene isn't for everyone. So, we decided to list out a few reasons not to move here.

    Too Many Options for Food

You may have heard that we have a church on every corner. Well, we also have a restaurant on every corner as well. Abilene can accommodate, pretty much, any palette.

So, if you can't appreciate a myriad of options for dining out, then Abilene is definitely not for you.

The Zoo is Entirely Too Nice

Abilene has one of the nicest zoos for any town our size. Heck, it's one of the nicest zoos in America.

So, if you don't like giraffe kisses and over a thousand different animals, then Abilene is not for you.

There is Way Too Much Art, Theatre, & History

Abilene has a plethora of art and history at your disposal. We've got places, like The Grace Museum to the Center for Contemporary Arts to Frontier Texas. We have events, like the Children's Art and Literacy Festival to Car Walk. We even have an old Civil War installation, Fort Phantom Hill, where the past comes to life.

Abilene is also home of some of the most talented thespians. From college to community theaters, there is always something for you to experience.

There's so much more to offer than just that, but if you're not a fan of art and history, then Abilene is not for you.

You're Forced to Deal With Four Seasons

The old saying in West Texas is "if you don't like the weather, just wait 10 minutes - it'll change".

In all seriousness, we do enjoy all four seasons here. Best of all, winter is typically not harsh like you get up north and there are plenty of area lakes to keep us cool during the summer.

    We Don't Have Congested Traffic

Traffic? Well, there really isn't any traffic. Heck, it only takes 10-15 minutes to get from one side of town to the other.

For you big city folk that enjoy your hour commute to/from work - then Abilene isn't for you.

You're Really Close to the Big City

As they say in the real estate business "location, location, location". Well, the beauty of Abilene is we're not a major city, but we're within a short enough drive to Dallas and Austin that we can enjoy the big city amenities without dealing with the big city issues on a daily basis.

We Live for High School Football

High School Football is king in Texas and West Texas has a ton of incredible talent.

Friday Night Lights is not just a movie, it's a way of life. We've got so many championship-caliber teams that it's tough to name them all in just one little blog.

The Cost of Living is Cheaper

Compared to other cities in Texas, the cost of living in the Abilene area is much lower.

From the cost of gas to rent or home ownership, we really do enjoy a more affordable way of life here in the Abilene area.

As a matter of fact, the cost of living is 8% lower than the national average while the cost of groceries is 9% lower, the cost of housing is 10% lower, and the cost of utilities is 26% lower.

If spending less money isn't in your game plan, then Abilene is not the place to move.
