Whether it was intentional or accidental, someone at NBC is in hot water because of the omission of 'Under God', 'Indivisible', & 'One Nation' from the Pledge of Allegiance during an introduction for the U.S. Open.

Following this flub, the outcry was immediate on Twitter..and in some cases, pretty dang nasty.

For a while now, the inclusion (or lack thereof) of 'Under God' has been a divisive issue. Some argue that it wasn't in the original draft of the pledge and others argue that it should stay because our country was founded on religious freedom (among other arguments). So, you can understand why the outcry in this instance is quite negative.

According to a blog written by Jay Busbee for Yahoo Sports, apparently later in the U.S. Open telecast, NBC released an apology which was read by host Dan Hicks: "It was our intent to begin our coverage of this U.S. Open championship with a feature that captured the patriotism of our national championship being here in our nation's capital for the third time. Regrettably, a portion of the pledge of allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone and we'd like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it.".
