This marked the second time Metallica performed at Global Citizen. The first was on the same date in 2016, though instead of headlining the fest, they played a much earlier set in the middle of the afternoon.

Their 2022 performance featured a familiar setlist full of massive hits, with five of the songs coming from the "Black Album."

One of the many memorable moments from the performance came when Metallica invited Mickey Guyton to the stage to help them sing "Nothing Else Matters." Guyton shared her interpretation of the song for The Metallica Blacklist in 2021 and she was clearly in awe of the opportunity to stand onstage with James Hetfield and company to lend her beautiful vocals to the timeless song. Metallica's appearance at Global Citizen marked their 23rd show of the year; they currently have two shows left on their tour schedule.

First, they'll be taking over the Hard Rock Live, a 7,000-seat theater in Hollywood, Fla., on Nov. 6 to honor the legacy of Jonny and Marsha Zazula. They've promised the night will be a distinct experience as they'll only be playing music from the early-'80s. Then, on Dec. 16, they'll fill the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles for their All Within My Hands benefit show. That, too, will be a special evening with Metallica performing acoustically in support of their philanthropic efforts; Greta Van Fleet will be opening the show in a rare acoustic performance, too.

You can learn more about these remaining shows at Metallica's official website.
