Popular Texas Hooters Locations at Risk of Bankruptcy
With over 40 locations across Texas, Hooters is on the brink of bankruptcy and we could all be saying "goodbye" to the breastaurant we all know and love.
The owl could be heading the way of the Dodo. On Friday, Bloomberg reported that Hooters of America was currently “working with creditors on a plan to restructure the business through bankruptcy court in the coming months.”
A law firm is currently writing up a filing, but it was also added by people asking to not be identified that these plans “are not final.” If the plan gets put into action, the process will begin in the next couple of months.
Bloomberg reports that the company’s consideration of entering bankruptcy comes as it has been contending with debt, liquidity problems and less people coming into its restaurants- which is insane considering the Hooters we have here in El Paso is always packed!
In Texas, that puts 49 Hooters restaurants (or breastaurant) in jeopardy- two of which are in El Paso- all together, there are 410 Hooters locations globally.
Hooters is not the only restaurant that has had to consider bankruptcy; just last year we almost had to say "goodbye" to endless shrimp at Red Lobster; mainly at the fault of endless shrimp!
It's been a rough start to the year, and 2024 was not that great for many big brands either. Last year alone, many retailers like Rite Aid, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walgreens and Big Lots announced several store closures of locations that were underperforming.
For now, I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief that Hooters hasn't made an official announcement, and we can all still enjoy the wings- we'll be sure to keep you abreast of the situation.
