Maybe you're driving through on I-20 and need a place to stop and stretch your legs. Or you're an Abilene native and want a new spot to meet friends for a cocktail. Might I suggest Allen Ridge at the corner of Ambler Ave and Judge Ely Blvd. With its pretty pond, walking trail, lounging lawn, and prolific outdoor seating, the Allen Ridge dining and retail space is one of the best new establishments to crop up in the Big Country.

First off, Bahama Buck's. I'm a huge fan. Bahama Buck's refers to themselves as the "original shaved ice company" and offers all manner of shaved ice, snowballs, and snow cones.

Twisted Root Burger Company serves up incredible burgers, many packed with exotic game meats. Twisted Root was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives in 2009.

At the The Biscuit Bar, find biscuits on the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Don't forget the adult drinks.

Summer Moon Coffee has delicious beverages, many made with the shop's famous Moon Milk. Packaged beans are also sold.

If you're into the tavern vibe, you're going to love the new Cork & Pig, which features a chef-driven blend of brick oven pizzas, salads, sandwiches, and signature entrées.

Phoenix Pho offers Vietnamese cuisine and a variety of boba teas.

Fuzzy's Taco Shop has tacos (naturally), margaritas, and much more.

Other Allen Ridge businesses include Apricot Lane Boutique, Abilene Nail Bar, and Hotworx yoga.

Is it me or does it seem like all the restaurant upgrades are showing up on the north side of Abilene? No matter, I'll take it. A-town needs all the new eateries we can get.
