Austin Texas Ranked One Of America’s Top Career Cities
If it feels like everybody is moving to Texas lately, you’re not imagining things. From major companies relocating their headquarters to young professionals chasing bigger, better opportunities, the Lone Star State continues to attract attention nationwide.
Now, a new study from WalletHub says Austin is one of the best places in America to start a career in 2026.

According to the report, Austin ranked #3 overall, followed by Orlando at #2. The only other Texas city to crack the Top 30 was Dallas at #12. Austin also earned the #1 spot in America for the highest monthly average starting salaries adjusted for cost of living, showing why so many young professionals are heading to Texas.
Why Austin Continues To Boom
WalletHub compared cities using 25 different career-focused categories, including entry-level job opportunities, starting salaries, housing affordability, and unemployment rates.
One of the biggest findings? Austin reportedly had the highest monthly average starting salary in America when adjusted for cost of living.
Honestly, that didn’t surprise me one bit. I actually attended my very first semester of college in Austin before eventually heading to college in Abilene and continuing my radio career here in West Texas. My wife and I joke sometimes that maybe I should’ve stayed in Austin and started a different career. But radio and West Texas were calling my name.
Texas Keeps Attracting Business
Part of Austin’s growth comes from the explosion of technology and business development across Texas. Major companies and entrepreneurs have continued relocating operations from places like California to Texas in search of lower taxes, more land, and a business-friendly environment.
That includes Elon Musk and Tesla, which built its massive Gigafactory near Austin. Combined with the influence of The University of Texas at Austin, the city has become a magnet for young professionals looking to launch careers in technology, business, and innovation.
And here in Texas, we’re seeing that growth spread far beyond Austin. Even right here in West Texas and Abilene, new development, AI projects, and expanding industries are already changing the landscape before our eyes.
