The man told El Paso Police that the woman, who he had met on Facebook, invited him to a party at a house in east El Paso. When he arrived at the house, he says, he was greeted not by a party but by six men who beat him up and robbed him.

In this age of dating or even just meeting new people online, I think most men just assume they’re immune from harm. Most women, I would imagine, are already cautious out of necessity. That’s why most first IRL meet-ups are done in visible and well-lighted public venues.

In this age of dating or even just meeting new people online, I think most men just assume they’re immune from harm. Most women, I would imagine, are already cautious out of necessity.  That’s why most first IRL meet-ups are done in visible and well-lighted public venues.  While most women would probably avoid a sketchy rendezvous at some random house, most men wouldn’t give it a second thought. I’m a guy so I know how we think. For most men if the chance of hooking up were even a remote possibility, he’d gladly meet up in the sketchiest alleyway in the sketchiest neighborhood and wouldn’t even wonder why his new Facebook friend had asked him to bring his ATM number written down on an index card. That’s just how single-minded (and dumb) men can be when an attractive female is involved.

I wonder what the guy was thinking when he showed up at the “party” and the only people there were THESE GUYS:

“Uh…hey…guys. Umm, nice face tattoos? This is kind of a sausage-fest, isn’t it?”

Police were able to make the arrests after a search warrant was obtained for the house. Yes. The same house where the guy said he was robbed. So, despite what these mugshots may suggest , maybe these guys WEREN’T the criminal geniuses they appear to be.

As for me, my future internet blind dates are going to be at the safest, most well-lit place I can think of: the Gap Store at the Outlet Mall. Unless, you know, she suggests someplace else.
