Dave Matthews Band’s Boyd Tinsley Screens ‘Faces in the Mirror’ Film in New York

The Dave Matthews Band have re-emerged from their yearlong hiatus with a long list of tour dates and a new album on the horizon, but we’re still finding out what some of the DMB members were up to during their time off — such as Boyd Tinsley, who debuted his new film, ‘Faces in the Mirror,’ during a recent screening in New York City.

For the band’s longtime violinist and mandolin player, making ‘Faces’ was a creative imperative. “Honestly, I have never felt anything like that before in my life, where it was just absolutely certain that this is what I had to do,” Tinsley told Rolling Stone at the event. “It wasn’t even a choice.”

Tinsley started working on the project during the sessions for the Dave Matthews Band’s previous LP, 2009′s ‘Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King,’ eventually recording the soundtrack over a five-day span with the help of fellow DMB members, as well as Shawn Smith of Brad. “It’s almost like the film is the score,” he said of the movie’s relative lack of dialogue, explaining the improv-heavy approach — and absence of a shooting script.
