Halloween on a Friday In Texas Just Hits Different: Let’s Keep It That Way
Every year in Texas, we hear the same groans: “Ugh, Halloween’s on a school night, we gotta be up early tomorrow.” But guess what, in 2025, Halloween is on Friday, and it’s glorious. Finally, a full night for spooky fun, no excuses about “I gotta be up at 6 AM.” (Yes, I ghost-shamed that once.)
Why Can't Halloween Be On Friday Or Saturday EVERY Year?
It just makes sense:
- Weekends = maximum turnout. Parties, haunted houses, trick-or-treating — everything peaks when people aren’t exhausted or clock-watching.
- No burnout the next day. Kids don’t crumble in class. Adults don’t face aggravated hangovers plus a Monday meeting.
- Consistency. If Halloween always fell on a weekend, planning would be easier and far less hectic
- It’s awesome. There’s something inherently cooler about “Halloween Friday” than “Halloween Wednesday.”

So what about the tradition of October 31st?
Some diehards say we must cling to the date at all costs. That’s fair. But tradition evolves. If shifting Halloween to the last Friday or Saturday of October preserves the spirit while improving the experience, I say bring it on.
Actually, there have been petitions proposing just that: to add a “National Trick-or-Treat Day” on the last Saturday of October so people get the weekend party, while preserving Oct. 31 as the official date. But that feels like splitting the difference too much. Let’s just make Halloween always weekend-slanted.
In 2025, let’s revel in that sweet Friday-night Halloween in Texas. Then let’s spend the next 364 days lobbying to make it permanent. Who's with me?
