Hold onto your kolaches, Texas, because another big-name convenience store is gunning for the Lone Star market.

A Midwest Favorite Rolls Into the Lone Star State

That’s right, Casey’s General Store, the Iowa-based chain famous for its gas, snacks, and surprisingly legit pizza, is making its Texas debut in a big way. The company just announced plans for seven new stores, including two in Abilene, plus locations in Tioga, Gladewater, Texarkana, Burnet, and Athens.

This isn’t their first rodeo down south, either. Casey’s already owns a batch of former Lone Star Food Stores across North Texas and recently bought out Fikes Wholesale, the parent company of CEFCO, to help fast-track their Texas takeover.

Not a Buc-ee’s Clone And That’s the Point

Before you ask: no, Casey’s isn’t trying to out-Buc-ee’s. Their stores are smaller, only around 4,200 to 4,500 square feet, and focus more on pizza, wings, breakfast sandwiches, and fuel than sprawling bathroom empires or brisket worship.

Think of it as Buc-ee’s’ laid-back cousin who shows up in a truck instead of a tour bus.

Casey’s Sets Its Sights on Abilene

So far, Casey’s West Texas investment seems locked in on Abilene, with three potential locations in the works,  though exact timelines could shift as permits roll out.

Reportedly, the first store will land on the northeast corner of Buffalo Gap Road and Beltway S. (announced November 24), followed by a second at 8471 South FM 707 (December 15), and a third planned for 2824 E. Overland Trail (targeting February 1, 2026).

If everything goes according to plan, Abilene could soon be the first major hub for Casey’s in West Texas, which means more pizza, more pit stops, and a new contender in the Texas convenience store showdown.
