Abilene Police Increase Enforcement In High-Risk Texas Roadways
It is a fact that driving in Abilene Texas can be a little hazardous due to how some people drive in town. The Abilene Police Department is hoping to make our roads safer as they step up their patrol efforts.
According to a press release by APD, they hope the increased enforcement will go a long way toward helping in creating safer driving habits.
Selected officers will target specific areas of Abilene by increasing enforcement for a month-to-month period through a grant provided by the Texas Department of Transportation. (via APD)

Focus Areas
According to the press release, the Abilene Police Department will focus on two areas in town; the South First corridor, and the Winters Freeway (Highway 83/84). The Winters Freeway has seen speeders over 100 mph in recent months.

What Will APD Be Looking For?
The increased enforcement will focus on speeding, distracted driving, seatbelt violations, child restraint violations, and driving while intoxicated, all of which are situations that we can control just by simply paying attention to the road.
Abilene Police want to remind all drivers to practice defensive driving habits and slow down while on our roadways.
While I think it's always a great idea to practice safe driving habits no matter where you are cruising, I have to wonder why APD tells us where they are going to be posted up. Seems like it defeats the purpose a little bit.
Regardless, be safe out there as you cruise the streets of Abilene. And, watch out for those potholes and bad parking spots!
