It’s one of those buildings in Texas that you can’t help but notice, and not in a good way. Once a local hot spot filled with life and laughter, it now stands silent, worn down, and surrounded by trash.

What was once a thriving business and part of Abilene’s past has become an eyesore. And since the business is shut down, whose responsibility is it to make sure it’s picked up? The city? The building’s owner? Apparently, the answer is…nobody.

A Building Gone from Classy to Trashed

Once upon a time, the building next to the Rock 108 studios had some class, literally. It was home to Touch of Class, then later Cattle Baron. Fast-forward a couple of decades, and what’s left is anything but classy. The place has been abandoned for years, with busted windows and a lot littered with trash, bottles, and random junk.

And here’s the kicker: the convenience store attached to it is still open, which means the mess is out in plain sight every single day.

Our Neighborhood Deserves Better

I walk to that store almost daily, and every trip feels like crossing a minefield of garbage. Sometimes, there’s even a mattress or two against the wall where someone’s been sleeping. Look, I’m not here to bash anyone down on their luck. Everyone deserves safety and dignity. But the problem isn’t homelessness. It’s neglect.

This isn’t just an eyesore; it’s a health hazard and a terrible look for the businesses in the area. Imagine bringing a guest or client to the station only for them to be greeted by piles of trash and broken glass. Abilene deserves better than this kind of visual welcome.

Who’s Supposed to Clean It Up?

Here’s the big question: who’s responsible for cleaning this up? Is it the property owner? The city? Or does it just fall on the rest of us to tolerate it? According to Texas law, property owners are required to maintain and secure their buildings, but when that doesn’t happen, it often takes code enforcement to step in.

So, then does that fall on the City of Abilene’s shoulders? All I know is that the people of Abilene, business owners, residents, and everyone who takes pride in this town, deserve to know why this abandoned building is still sitting in ruins while we’re left picking up the pieces.
