’22 Jump Street’ Red-Band Trailer: It’s Spring Break, Motherf—ers
Phil Lord and Chris Miller may have passed up on 'Ghostbusters 3,' but that's completely fine with us if they keep making movies that look as funny as '22 Jump Street'. Today, the final red-band trailer has arrived and, in the rare case of the comedy sequel, it looks just as funny as the first.
Making the original '21 Jump Street' funny was a pretty big challenge, but making a sequel - wherein Jenko and Schmidt (Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill) go to college - could be even bigger. Luckily, Lord and Miller appear more than up to the challenge.
As Ice Cube even says in the trailer, "It's the same case, do the same thing." There's a little bit of that here, but that's also the film already acknowledging that's what audiences expect them to do (and, judging by Cube's tone, that's exactly what they're not doing).
After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don't have to just crack the case - they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.
There are some great lines in here we won't ruin for you, so you're just going to have to check it out for yourselves.
'22 Jump Street' opens in theaters on June 13.
