While I have grown fond of a great cover tune, I have also developed a severe disdain of bands covering songs and completely butchering them. There's nothing wrong with covering a great song, but don't attempt it if you can't make it your own and do the original justice.

Here are just a few great rock songs that have been butchered by those covering them.

  • Opiate

    Limp Bizkit

    orig: Tool

While Limp Bizkit did a good job on their cover of Faith and Behind Blue Eyes, they completely butchered this epic song by Tool, which happens to be one of my favorite songs ever.

  • Smells Like Teen Spirit

    Miley Cyrus

    orig: Nirvana

Arguably one of the greatest rock songs of all-time, Smells Like Teen Spirit was completely slaughtered by Miley Cyrus in this video. The only redeeming part about this is that it was before Cyrus went off the deep end and started playing with foam fingers.

  • You Shook Me All Night Long

    Big & Rich

    orig: AC/DC

    This cover makes me vomit.

  • I'm Eighteen

    Creed

    orig: Alice Cooper

I'm torn on this one. Unlike many, I actually really like Creed. I dig Scott Stapp's voice and I dig the instrumental part of this song, but I don't like the 2 put together. This just doesn't have that menacing Alice Cooper appeal.

  • House of the Rising Sun

    Five Finger Death Punch

    orig: The Animals

I think FFDP did a good job on covering Bad Company and LL Cool J, but this cover makes me cringe. Overall, it's a well produced song. I think they just over-commercialized this song to make a buck. It really doesn't sound like a song that they are truly impassioned by.

  • Comfortably Numb

    (Band Name Unknown)

    orig: Pink Floyd

    No explanation needed. Just listen.
