The advocacy group One Million Moms aren’t big fans of a new Ben & Jerry’s flavor dubbed “Schweddy Balls.”
In fact, they’re calling for a boycott of the ice cream, whose name pays tribute to a ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch in which Alec Baldwin plays Pete Schweddy, a man who makes popcorn, rum and cheese balls.
One Million Moms’ statement, released Wednesday, states:
For its latest flavor, ice cream purveyors Ben & Jerry’s drew from history. Comedic history.
Months after Alec Baldwin dropped hints that a flavor named “Schweddy Balls” was on the horizon, B&J have made it a reality. The concoction, made of vanilla ice cream with fudge-covered rum and malt balls, got its name from an old ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch win which Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer play low-key NPR hosts who delight in holiday confections made by eatery-owner Pete Schweddy (Baldwin).
