Supermoon This Saturday

The best time to look at a “Supermoon” is when the moon is near the horizon. The effect is said to be stunning.

Here’s an explanation from USA TODAY:
“A ‘Super Moon’ is a situation when the moon is slightly closer to Earth in its orbit than on average, and this effect is most noticeable when it occurs at the same time as a full moon,” says James Garvin, chief scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.

But will the moon being close have any effect on the earth? Nothing really around here. Tides are said to run about an inch higher and pets will turn on their masters and eat their faces (okay that last part was bulls$it).

We may have some clouds tomorrow night, but it will probably still be worth a look. The next “Supermoon” will happen in 2029.
