At the recent ceremony presenting Slash with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Hollywood, Calif., the axe-slinger recruited his friend and neighbor Charlie Sheen to be his official Master of Ceremonies and to speak on his behalf. In a new interview with Fuse, Slash explains how that curious kinship came to be, his biggest supporter at the ceremony and his initial shock about receiving the honor.

“When I first heard that I was getting a star on the walk of fame, I didn’t believe it, and I didn’t believe it for months,” admits Slash. It wasn’t until he started getting grilled about it during interviews that it really started to sink in. “It was actually suppose to be a secret for awhile and it just sort of leaked out and so I didn’t believe it,” said Slash. “It wasn’t until the last month when people started asking me in interviews how I felt about the star, well then it has to be real. It’s just not something that I would expect to get.”

According to Slash, no one was more proud of him than his old friend and former Guns N’ Roses bandmate Steven Adler. “Steven Adler was pretty excited about it,” said Slash. “Steven and I appreciate it for the same reason, we literally spent the better part of the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades ditching school and hanging out on Hollywood Boulevard. He knows what a special thing it is to get recognized by the city of Hollywood.”

Regarding how actor Charlie Sheen got involved, Slash explained the story, saying, “As soon as it came time, really at the last minute, you have to get people to speak on your behalf, and I was way too embarrassed to call anybody.” He continued, “Finally in the eleventh hour they said ‘you really need to get that together and pick who’s going to speak for you’ and Charlie [Sheen], he was always in the back of my mind as the guy to call. So finally I sent a text to Charlie ‘Hey would you speak on my behalf at the Hollywood Walk of Fame’ and he was really glad to do it.”
