Marilyn Manson Reflects on Relationships, Family and Friend Johnny Depp

Marilyn Manson
Mary Ouellette,

With the recent news of Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie teaming up for the Twins of Evil tour, fans are going to have the opportunity to see a lot more of the ‘Antichrist Superstar’ on the stage this year. But for music enthusiasts hoping to learn more about the man behind the music, a new introspective piece offers up some intimate details on the provocateur in his own words.

Covering everything from love, children, his friends and his family, the vulnerable words shared by Manson in the ‘This Much I Know’ article paint a deep picture of the often misunderstood musician.

On his parents, Manson says, “I think maybe my dad understands me. It’s hard to tell. I find the people who understand me best are the people who don’t assume things.” When it comes to his mother, the rocker opens up, saying, “My mum has dementia so she doesn’t know who I am now, but when she did she’d say: ‘Gentlemen prefer blondes.’ And I would say: ‘But I’m a villain.’”

Clearing away any misconceptions, Manson may surprise some with this revelation, “I’m not some sort of sexual deviant. I think I would laugh nervously in the face of a threesome. I’m shy. I’m the kind of person who turns the lights out.”

On love and relationships Manson commented on both the past and the present. First with his current situation and possible future offspring, explaining, “My girlfriend Lindsay’s twin just had a baby and I’ve started to think that maybe I wouldn’t mind passing my demented genius on to some small thing who can set fire and breathe profanity. And on his past loves, he admits, “I’m on good terms with my ex-wife [Dita Von Teese], but I saw her last night at the Met Bar in London and I think there’s a part of her that’s still pissed at me.”

With Johnny Depp sharing the stage with Manson a few times over the past year, Manson sheds some light on their relationship, saying, “Johnny Depp is like a brother to me. We have matching tattoos on our backs – Charles Baudelaire, the flowers of evil, this giant skeleton thing. It’s kind of a secret. People say to us, ‘Why did you get that?’ And we say, ‘No reason.’”

While it’s no surprise that Manson is rarely fueled by reason, his passion for his music, art, and those around him seems to run quite deep. Read the whole article from The Observer here featuring Marilyn Manson – you might just learn something new about the proclaimed shock-rocker.
