Kiss Producer Kenny Kerner Dies

Kenny Kerner

Kenny Kerner, who produced numerous bands over the years including Kiss, has died. Kerner and Richie Wise co-produced Kiss’ first two albums. Both ‘Kiss’ and ‘Hotter Than Hell’ were released in 1974, and launched one of rock’s most successful and iconic bands.

Kerner reportedly passed away as a result of complications from diabetes. After hearing of Kerner’s passing, Kiss posted the following message:

“We are shocked to hear of Kenny Kerner’s passing. He was an early supporter of the band and co-produced our first two albums. He additionally did some terrific work that produced numerous hits including “Midnight Train To Georgia” for Gladys Knight and the Pips and “Brother Louie” for Stories. He remained a friend till the end and we will never forget his contributions to our early years.”

Other artists Kerner produced included Dust, Jose Feliciano, Teena Marie, Steve Marriott and Badfinger. He also wrote or co-wrote more than 300 songs. In addition to producing, Kerner also worked in publicity, management and teaching.

He wrote the book ‘Going Pro: Developing a Professional Career in the Music Industry’ and was an editor and writer for several music magazines including ‘Cashbox,’ ‘Rock Scene’ and ‘Metal Mania.’

A couple of months ago, Kerner was interviewed by journalist Mitch Lafon. Listen to the more than hour long conversation about Kiss and other topics here.
