Hot on the heels of premiering the new song ‘Rosemary,’ Deftones shared another new jam called ‘Roller Derby.’ The ‘Tones performed both ‘Rosemary’ and ‘Roller Derby’ last night (July 28) at another gig at the Troubadour in Hollywood. You can view live footage of both songs, which are expected to appear on the band’s upcoming album, below.

‘Roller Derby’ is quintessential Deftones, featuring that signature tension between the vocals and guitars. While the band has been known to be experimental and atmospheric in its songs, from what we can tell, ‘Roller Derby’ is as harsh and gnarly as the sport it’s named after. In a good way, of course. Frontman Chino Moreno also uses his metallic wail from back to front on this noisy song.

‘Rosemary,’ which the band played live the night before at the same location, reminds us a bit more of ‘Change (In the House of Flies),’ which was the Sacto group’s biggest radio hit. It boasts those hallmark harmonics and quiet-loud bursts that have become a staple of Deftones songs, especially on later period albums. It has a barge-like metallic riff at the center, one whose resonant buzz wouldn’t sound out of place on a Meshuggah album. That’s not any sort of shock, since guitarist Stephen Carpenter has made no secret of his Meshuggah worship over the years.

The audio quality of both songs is pretty decent, but obviously, we cannot wait to hear them in tightly- produced, crisp studio form. The ‘Tones are expected to release the follow up to 2010′s ‘Diamond Eyes’ this year.

So tell us. What do you guys think of the new songs? Do you prefer ‘Roller Derby’ or ‘Rosemary?’
