Death of the Killers Saxophonist Ruled a Suicide

Tragedy struck the Killers and the Las Vegas, Nev., music scene earlier this week when news broke of saxophone player Tommy Marth’s death. Sadly, it’s been confirmed that Marth took his own life.

The musician’s body was found in his Vegas home this past Monday (April 23). As Popcrush relayed, E! Online reported that the Clark County Coroner’s Office in Las Vegas has ruled Marth’s death a suicide. Details of how he died have not been released.

Marth was featured on the Killers’ second album, 2006′s ‘Sam’s Town,’ and 2008′s ‘Day & Age.’ The saxophonist played with the band during their performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall, which was released as a DVD in 2009 entitled ‘Live from the Royal Albert Hall.’

“Last night we lost our friend Thomas Marth,” the Killers tweeted. “Our prayers are with his family. There’s a light missing in Las Vegas tonight. Travel well, Tommy.”

Despite his success as a musician, Marth spoke of his frustration with the music industry during  a 2008 interview with Las Vegas Magazine. ”I’ve also quit jobs because I’ve been asked to compromise my own integrity,” he told the magazine. “And I’ve had no qualms about doing that … I’ve never had to do anything illegal, which I know that plenty of people who do operate a lot of these venues still do. And because of that, you can always expect honesty, you can always expect me to help you out. I’m always true to my word.”
