The Babes with Bullets Shooting Camp is Coming to Texas [VIDEO]

The Babes with Bullets (BwB) shooting camp that travels across the United States is coming to Texas in October. The BwB camp is a three day firearms training program for women who have little or no handgun experience. The BwB ‘combo camp’ offers women AR-15 rifle training too. Every camp is taught by women who are national and world firearms champions. The next Babes with Bullets camp will be in Amarillo and runs October 5th thru the 8th.

Abilene Church Gives Kids One Last Summer Bash Before School Starts

Trinity Baptist Church youth Pastor Joseph Plagge says they’re planning one last bash before school starts. The event is will take place at Trinity Baptist Church located at 871 Woodlawn Drive. It is free and open to children ages 3 years old thru 5th grade. Plagge says “this will also be a perfect opportunity to introduce neighborhood children to AWANA.”

Abilene Alzheimer’s Association to Benefit from Art Walk [VIDEO]

Art-Walk enters into uncharted territory on September 13th, when the Center for Contemporary Arts (a non-profit themselves) raises money and awareness for another non-profit, the Abilene Alzheimer’s Association. Among the usual art displays, activities, sights and events that take place during Art-Walk, on September 13th Art-Walk will seem more like “Carnival” in Rio de Janeiro. Music, fun and games will fill the air and the streets of downtown Abilene. Plus live entertainment from a very popular local band.

Cross Plains Classic 5k Run to Benefit the Local Cancer Fund is September 15th

The first annual Cross Plains Classic 5k is set for September 15th. This event is a run or walk  and there will also be a 1-mile walk option. All proceeds benefit the local Cross Plains Community Cancer Fund. If you per-register before September 1st, you’ll receive a T-shirt commemorating the event. There’s also a “Sleep-in” option. The Farm Bill and Drought to be Main Focus at Abilene Wheat Conference

The Big Country Wheat Conference will be held August 23rd at the Taylor County fair grounds, 1982 Lytle Way in Abilene. The Farm Bill will affect most all West Texans, as most farmers and ranchers try to figure out the challenges the new ‘Farm Bill’ will bring. Saturday is the National Day of the American Cowboy (NDAC) and will be celebrated all over the Lone Star State. The closest place to Abilene holding a big celebration is the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District.
