If you or someone you know in Texas doesn't have a place to keep warm in the brutally cold temperatures, the city of Abilene has a solution.

How Cold Will It Be?

As of this writing, temperatures in the Abilene area were around 10 degrees around 9 am, with highs expected to be only in the mid-20s before dropping to 8 degrees overnight. Wednesday looks to be the same with more sub-zero temperatures before a warming trend starts this Sunday.

I don't know about you, but I'm done with this winter stuff.

Warming Centers in Abilene

  • City Light Community Ministries at 1441 North 4th Street in Abilene will be open from 8:15 am to 3 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  • Love & Care Ministries at 233 Fannin Street will open from 6 am to 4 pm Monday through Thursday.
  • Salvation Army at 1726 Butternut is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • City of Abilene Public Libraries will have their main branch at 202 Cedar, the Mockingbird branch, and their South Branch all open as warming centers.

Kudos to the City of Abilene for stepping up and making these warming centers available to those who need them as this Polar Vortex rolls through Texas. Hopefully, this is the last winter cold front to move across the Lone Star State.

Stay warm and be safe out there, Texas!
