If you or someone you know in Texas is suffering from the cold temperatures, the city of Abilene has a solution.

How Cold Will It Be?

A blistering cold front has tracked through Texas and not only are we experiencing sub-zero temperatures, but we also have a chance at some significant snow later this week. It is possible that Abilene could see around four inches of snow between late Wednesday through Friday afternoon as overnight temperatures will be well below freezing.

Because of the brutal temperatures, Abilene has opened up several "warming centers" throughout the Key City along with some important winter tips.

Warming Centers in Abilene

  • While some of these places have specific hours you can warm up, it's worth noting that the Salvation Army is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • City Light Community Ministries at 1441 North 4th Street in Abilene will be open from 9 am to 3 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  • Love & Care Ministries at 233 Fannin Street will open from 6:30 am to 4 pm Monday through Thursday.
  • Salvation Army at 1726 Butternut is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • City of Abilene Public Libraries will have their main branch at 202 Cedar, the Mockingbird branch, and their South Branch all open as warming centers.

Kudos to the City of Abilene for stepping up and making these warming centers available to those who need it as this Polar Vortex rolls through Texas.
