Peter Berg’s Patriots Day, about the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings and the hunt for the culprits, seems like an odd choice for the director of Battleship, Hancock, and the Friday Night Lights movie. But Berg’s latest film Deepwater Horizon shows his interests also lie in adapting true stories to film — or, at least, making true stories more exciting. Now that the dynamic movie score duo of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are set to create the soundtrack for the movie, Patriots Day could be Berg’s next big hit.

Berg made the announcement yesterday on his Instagram:

Reznor and Ross’s scores are pretty much the definition of “atmospheric” – they aren’t permeating enough to distract from the movies they’re attached to, but when listened to by themselves they become ambient albums of their own. You might recognize their work from David Fincher’s last few films The Social Network, for which they won a Golden Globe, Gone Girl, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, for which they won an Emmy.

Here’s the synopsis for Patriots Day:

In the aftermath of an unspeakable act of terror, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard Deslauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of the most sophisticated manhunt in law enforcement history and the strength of the people of Boston.

Patriots Day opens January 13, 2017.
