A train has derailed near Pecos, Texas, after hitting a semi-truck tragically killing two people and injuring several.

What Happened?

According to multiple news outlets, the train collided with a tractor-trailer stuck on the tracks in Pecos, a town west of Odessa-Midland, Texas. The crash caused the train to derail and smash into the Chamber of Commerce building.

Union Pacific originally investigated a potentially unsafe situation as three cars carried hazardous materials. However, city officials have since confirmed that other than a leak of diesel fuel, there is no current risk to the public at this time.

"The only breach of any material we have right now is diesel from the engine. It has been contained. So there's no hazard to the public at this time," Pecos city manager Charles Lino said.

Local State Representative Eddie Morales Jr. said on Facebook that he has been in contact with the Texas Department of Emergency Management and local officials.

The investigation and cleanup continued in Pecos this morning.
