Like most of us, I remember how scary it was leaving the nest for the first time, out on my own. Laying a pathway for your future and career is no small feat. Hundreds of college and university students in Abilene have faced this very task every year as they enter the job market for the first time. I know back in my college days there were several things to consider, the job market, housing, and overall affordability.

Fortunately, from everything I've read, now is a good time to enter the job market. The unemployment rate is nothing like it was. It seems that things have calmed down a bit since the pandemic and the market is recovering.

According to wallethub.com there are 5 cities that are hotbeds for starting new careers and springboarding existing ones. Texas has one of these cities. Read on as we take a look at the top 5.

Orlando, FL.

In my research, I've uncovered that Orlando is a huge industrial and high-tech megaplex. More than 150 international companies representing 20 countries have facilities in Orlando. Lockheed Martin, Siemens, and General Electric just to name a few. Orlando is close enough to commute from nearby suburbs and allows easy access to Port Canaveral, a cruise ship terminal.

Salt Lake City, UT.

Referred to as the "Crossroads of the West" because of the railroads, the city's main business sectors are transportation, utilities, and trade. It's no joke, Salt Lake City is home to a bunch of corporations, and I mean a bunch. Adobe, E-bay, Macy's and so many more, there's no wonder that this city reins on top.

Austin, TX.

You better believe it. The Texas city of Austin makes the hotlist for cities great to start a career. Austin is the 10th most populous city in the United States and the 4th most populous in Texas. The city has been steadily growing since 2010 and is considered to be a major tech center. There's a reason why thousands of students graduate every year from the engineering and computer science programs at the University of Texas.

It's no surprise. There's no shortage of colleges and universities in the Abilene area. Many students becoming young adults and entering the job market for the very first time. Hopefully, these cities will narrow the search a bit. Congratulations to all of this year's graduates.
