Deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, about 23 miles from Austin, sits the Hamilton Pool Reserve. The natural pool was created when the dome of an underground river collapsed. The pool is jade-green and partially shaded by a collapsed grotto, forming an oasis-type experience.

Hamilton Creek spills out over the surrounding limestone to create a 50-foot waterfall, which plunges into a steep canyon. The pool's water level stays pretty constant, even during periods of drought. The preserve is also home to a variety of native birds, fish, animals, and plants.
