It's been just over a year since I received lasik surgery at the Abilene Eye Institute and I still have no after affects and can see perfectly.  If you have been thinking about getting lasik surgery, check out my experience and maybe that will make your decision a little easier.

Wearing glasses and/or contacts is such a pain for several reasons.  Getting up in the morning, you have to find the specs or put the contacts in before you can even look at the clock across the room.  Any time I wore glasses, I had to make sure that I kept my glasses safe if I was doing anything physical because glasses can break or scratch very easily.  If I was wearing contacts, which was most of the time, there was always the hassle of putting them in your eyes in the morning, not to mention the fact that anytime I got something my eye, I had to take out the contact and wash it and then put it back in, etc.  If I went swimming I, obviously, couldn't wear my contacts or if glasses.  Then there is the financial part of it where I spent anywhere from $300-$450 annually for eye exams, new contacts, lens, frames, etc.

Lasik surgery not only changed my eye sight, but my life in general!

I had always been nearsighted meaning I could see everything up close well, but things in the distant were blurry and hard to see - especially when driving.  I didn't actually start wearing corrective lens until I was about 25, but I probably needed them  a lot sooner!

So, last year, I decided to have lasik surgery on both of my eyes.  Probably the best decision I have ever made!

Many of you might not even know this but you don't have to go to Dallas or any other big city to get lasik surgery or other corrective procedures as the Abilene Eye Institute can take care of you right here in Abilene, Texas.

The Abilene Eye Institute  has several doctors on hand to consult with as well as doing the actual procedure.  Dr. Paul B. Thames, Dr. Mark J. Phelan, Dr. Anca D. Pacuraru, and Dr. Kerry C. Preston along with an incredible staff, make up a team of experts capable of not only doing the procedure, but putting your mind at ease about the whole process. They also have all of the equipment needed for the procedure so not having to drive two and a half hours to Dallas to get the surgery done was a plus.

I went in for a consultation with Dr. Thames and as easy as going to grab a burger at a fast food place, my eyes were examined and I was set up with a date for lasik surgery.

The day of the surgery, I had my wife drive me to Abilene Eye Institute.  You'll definitely want to have somebody drive you because after the procedure, things are not that clear. More on that in a minute.

We get to the Abilene Eye Institute and after a quick exam, I was prepped for surgery.  They put this weird medicine along with iodine on my eyes to numb the areas they will be working on.  This felt weird and after a short while, I could not feel much at all on my eyes.

I was wheeled into surgery and at this point is when I got really nervous.  I mean, I'm the type of person that hates things near my eyes which made it even more difficult when I did wear contacts. The staff assured me everything would be ok and to relax.  I was every bit awake during the whole process, but could not feel anything on my eyes except a little tugging from time to time as they inserted these things over my eye sockets to get a better view of my eyes to perform the procedure.

As I looked up, I could see what appeared to be a green laser.  The squiggly lines kept getting closer and I could hear the machine working as the doctors continued to talk to me about various things to get my mind off of the procedure.  I couldn't actually feel anything penetrating my eyes but I was very aware of what was happening which causes the mind to freak a bit from time to time.  Again, the staff kept my mind at ease and talked me through everything so that did make me feel better.

After about five to six minutes, one eye was done.  Five to six minutes later, the other eye was done and the procedure was complete.  It literally took less than fifteen minutes for the entire procedure!

There was no pain, but man my eyes were watering like Niagara Falls.  This is where having someone drive you after the procedure comes in handy as I could not open my eyes without a gush of water blinding me.  The docs told me to take a pain pill they had subscribed for me and that after sleeping for a few hours, I should wake up and be able to see perfectly.

That is exactly what happened!

After sleeping for a few hours, I woke up and and even though I still had some watery eyes, I could see perfectly! No glasses, no contacts, no problem.  It was amazing! I could not believe I could see so well after only having surgery a few hours before.

After a week, I went back and had 20-15 vision.

Since then, I have had no problems at all.  I can see better than ever and have no blurriness whatsoever. I don't have to worry about finding my glasses or putting contact lens in before I can see anything.  Driving is so much better and I don't have to get special sun glasses anymore.  Life is definitely different. The best part is that I'm not shelling out a lot of cash each year for glasses, contact lens or exams.

If you are thinking about getting lasik surgery or other corrective procedures, I recommend going to the Abilene Eye Institute.  They made it very easy for me to understand what was going to happen.  Plus, they do have financing available. Not to mention, you don't have to drive a long way to make life a lot easier for you.
