2 major restaurant chains are merging and they have chosen Texas as their starting point. When will they hit El Paso?

Two monster restaurants are going to start sharing one location and the first of these "pairings" just opened in Seguin, Texas not far from San Antonio.

The first joint Applebees and IHOP location opened February 18th and a total of 14 more are expected to open over the next year or so.

If you can't decide whether you want breakfast, lunch, dinner or a few drinks while watching your favorite sports team play; you may soon be able to go to just 1 place to decide.

Yes, you can mix 'n match all menu items and drinks. Need a little tequila with your ham and eggs for your cruda? No worries. Care for some happy face pancakes with your boneless wings? They gotcha'.  Currently, El Paso has 9 Applebees locations along with 5 IHOP's.

  • 5800 N. Mesa
  • 440 Redd Rd
  • 4700 Woodrow Bean/Trans Mountain Rd
  • 1766 Airway
  • 7956 Gateway East
  • 1985 George Dieter
  • 1350 George Dieter
  • 12271 Eastlake
  • 3460 Joe Battle.

The IHOP's are at 6080 Gateway East, 655 Sunland Park, 4500 Hondo Pass, 1341 George Dieter and 1889 N. Zaragosa with a 6th in Canutillo.

Applebees And IHOP Merging In El Paso?

None of them are all that close to each other and Applebees clearly out numbers IHOP so ... in my humble, (clueless), opinion ... I think their best bet is to remodel the existing Applebees and shut down the IHOP locations.

That would spread more IHOP goodness around El Chuco and it seems cheaper than building new ones although they're not against that. That's, of course, IF we get any of the newly merged locations at all. I wasn't able to find a list of where the new ones are planned so we'll have to wait and see.
